John Kerry: Still in Denial

John Kerry proposed a plan to pull US troops out of Iraq. The Senate overwhelmingly rejected his plan -- 86-13. Kerry called it a "dramatic step forward." Now, either he sees his defeat as a step in the right direction, or he has reached a very low point. When getting 13 out of 100 votes is a dramatic step its time to rethink your game plan. That's not even half of the democrats in the Senate. What I see here is Kerry trying not to look like a complete loser after being so completely defeated and, as usual, failing. Perhaps he was also referencing a plan put forth by Senator Levin which was defeated only 60-39. I guess going from 13 to 39 is a pretty dramatic step, but its still not even everyone in his own party. In reference to these two votes, ostensibly, Ted Kennedy said "'Democrats have sent a clear message.'" The only clear message I see here is that the Democrats are in big trouble and unless their leadership comes up with something new they can expect to continue in that trouble for another election cycle.

He originally had a lot more support. But then the pentagon report that showed we have found, and have been finding WMD's the entire time we've been in Iraq came out the night before the vote, and he lost most of his supporters which were obviously mostly dems.

What report is this? and where can I find it?

Its a foxnews report and its linked in the post titled "Suck On This" at variationsofatheme.blogspot.com. The report notes that the WMDs found were not those that we originally went to war over, but still show that Sadam was getting past weapons inspectors and most likely had some intention to use these weapons.

its really pissing me off that no one is reporting it though.

CNN had it front-paged, but not as a headline:

"With some Democrats saying the decision to go to war was a mistake, Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pennsylvania, and House Intelligence Chairman Peter Hoekstra, R-Michigan, tried to dispel arguments by Democratic lawmakers that no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq.

Santorum and Hoekstra released a newly declassified military intelligence report that said coalition forces have found 500 munitions in Iraq that contained degraded sarin or mustard nerve agents, produced before the 1991 Gulf War.

A defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the weapons were not considered likely to be dangerous because of their age. Also, Democrats said a lengthy 2005 report from the top U.S. weapons inspector contemplated that such munitions would be found."

I don't know what Kerry's deal is. He's a politician, and he does political things, and not every bill is meant to pass. His hair is freaking huge, of that we can be sure.

As for whether the soulless, planless Democrats will be in trouble in the 2006 elections, I think it's hard to tell at this point. As long as Santorum loses his senate race, I'll be happy.

No one's reporting it because it's not true. Santorum and crew are trying to act like finding a stockpile of chemical weapons justifies the entire war, which it doesn't. Fox pulled this exact same thing about 2 years ago when someone used a chemical weapon in Iraq - the headline said "WMD dedonated in Iraq" or something like that.

I know chemical weapons from the 80's are technically WMD's, and that Sadaam probably sent all of his nukes to Syria - I'm not blaming the administration or dogging on the war. I just think the President sold this war to the country as a war about nukes, nuke-you-lar nukes, and until they find some, I don't think the republicans are being entirely honest to run around waving "WMD's found!!" banners in triumph.
